Outreach

Bringing the Library to our Community

Outreach Services are Services for Library Patrons with Special Needs. Outreach Services offer:

Audio players and tapes for the blind. These players and tapes are provided through the Mississippi Library Commission in Jackson at no charge to qualified patrons. MLC also offers accessories such as: Tone Arm Clip, Headphones, Extension Levers, Solar-panel battery chargers, and Pillowphones. Breath Switches are available for severely physically disabled readers who have little or not use of their extremities.

These services are totally postage free. All tape players and audio tapes are sent directly to the patron’s home with return “matter for the blind” mailing labels. There is a wide variety of talking books available: westerns, novels, non-fiction, romance, foreign language, mystery and even magazines on tape.

Our Outreach Program also offers free books and magazines for non-profit organizations. Some of the institutions we service are the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Youth Detention Center, nursing homes, and schools. We also offer Story Times to the residents of a couple of our local nursing homes.

For questions, comments, and/or inquiries of our services, please contact Gen Thompson at g.thompson@harrison.lib.ms.us or by calling the Harrison County Library System at (228) 539-0110.
