Qualifications – High School Diploma or equivalent; ability to provide excellent service to patrons by maintaining a tactful and courteous demeanor; basic computer skills; physical ability to bend, lift, reach, and carry up to 25 lbs.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Greeting public and providing excellent patron service
  • Assisting in opening and closing the library
  • Processing library card applications and patron record updates
  • Checking books in and out
  • Shelving books
  • Answering phones
  • Assisting patrons with finding library materials and placing holds or requesting ILL
  • Assisting patrons with computers
  • Assisting patrons with reference questions
  • Handling payments for fines
  • Assisting patrons with prints, copies, and faxes
  • Maintaining a neat and pleasant environment
  • Maintaining patron privacy and confidentiality
  • Providing all other basic library service to patrons
  • Other duties as needed or required by Branch Manager

Hours: 17 hours per week, including some nights and Saturdays.

Minimum salary: $11.15 per hour.

Library Clerk - PT - Local History & Genealogy Assistant

Location: Biloxi Public Library, 580 Howard Ave Biloxi, MS

Position: Local History & Genealogy Assistant – PT

Qualifications – Background in local history, degree in history preferred; library experience preferred; research skills; organizational skills; proficiency with basic office applications; knowledge of digitization of archival materials preferred, excellent oral and written communication skills

Role and Responsibilities

  • Providing reference service with specific emphasis on local history and genealogy questions to patrons in person, by phone, and by email or letter, as well as to agencies outside the library
  • Choosing materials to add to the LH&G collection, as the department budget permits
  • Creating and maintaining finding aids and handouts
  • Creating displays, making presentations on LH&G collections, and promoting the department in the community
  • Maintaining collections and performing repair as needed
  • Assisting patrons with copiers, scanners, and microfilm equipment
  • Increasing visibility of the System and department by speaking to community organizations, classes, governmental entities, etc. and by writing about collections when opportunities arise
  • Participating in community events
  • Ability to digitize collections
  • Ability to locate items and create new collections through collaboration with community partners as needed
  • Ability to track, monitor, and report social media posts
  • Ability to design promotional material including brochures, flyers, and signage
  • Other duties as necessary

Hours: 17 hours per week, including some nights and Saturdays.

Minimum salary: $11.40per hour.
