Holiday Schedule

The Library observes the ten (10) legal holidays set forth in § 3‐3‐7 of the Mississippi Code of1972, Annotated, except the third Monday of February, Washington’s Birthday.  In lieu of Washington’s Birthday, HCLS will observe Mardi Gras.  Additional holidays proclaimed by the Governor will also be observed.
 
The following have been designated as HCLS holidays:


New Years Day January 1
Robert E Lee/Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Third Monday of January
Mardi Gras Day Varied
Confederate Memorial Day Last Monday of April
National Memorial Day/Jefferson Davis’ Birthday Last Monday of May
Independence DayJuly 4 
Labor Day First Monday of September  
Veterans' DayNovember 11
Thanksgiving Fourth Thursday of November
Christmas December 25
 

If any holiday above falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday is the legal holiday instead.

The Administrative Board of Trustees may elect to close the library on additional days, such as the day after Christmas, without employee compensation, so long as employment contracts are not breached.

Note #1 - Traditionally, the Board has declared the Saturday before Memorial Day, the Saturday before Labor Day, and the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Common Days Off - meaning no employees are scheduled to work and the library is closed.
