Stant appointed to head library's adult services ___________________________

William E. Stant Jr. has been appointed head of the Gulfport-Harrison County Libraryís Adult Services, according to Norman F. Graham, librarian.

Stant, who began his new duties on Sept. 3, will supervise the libraryís reference and circulation departments.

However, Graham said Stant will be primarily occupied during his first months on the job with the Union List Project. Graham explained the library recently received a $51,293 grant from the Mississippi Library Commission for the Union List Project, which is to be completed by June 30. 1975.

Graham noted the Gulfport facility will be responsible for producing the initial edition of the list and for devising the methods to be used for updating.

He described the Mississippi Union List of Periodicals as a computer generated listing of the periodical holdings of some 40 of the largest libraries in the state.

He said one of Stantís duties will be to develop a computer program that will permit the List to be expanded so future editions can include additional libraries and can include serial publications other than periodicals.

Stant received a Master of Science Degree in Library Science in August from Florida State University. He received his Bachelorís Degree in Administrative Psychology from the University of West Florida.

He is a member of the American Society for Information Science, the American Library Association, the Special Libraries Association, and the Mississippi Library Association.

He, his wife, and son reside in Gulfport.
