Damage from Hurricane Camille - 1969

Windows were smashed. Books, periodicals, furniture, records, and art pieces were swept away by the hurricane.

Damaged by fierce winds, the roof of the library allowed pooring water onto undamaged books in the rains that came in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Boarded windows protected the library from the elements after the storm. Soldiers guarded the wounded building against looters in the days immediately following.
