Genealogical Research
Ancestry.com
Comprehensive genealogy website with census, military, directory, immigration, court, and many other documents. The search engine is free to view along with selected content, but a subscription is required for most of the full text information on the website. For instance, the 1880 U.S. Federal Census is available to view without a paid subscription.
Genealogy Bank
A useful tool to identify articles in old newspapers across the United States through surname and/or keyword searches. The search engine is available without a subscription; however, you must have a subscription to view the full text results. Choose the "Advanced Search" option to keyword search ("Include keywords with this search" option can be used alone).
RootsWeb
Description from the RootsWeb website...
"The primary purpose and function of RootsWeb.com is to connect people so that they can help each other and share genealogical research. Most resources on RootsWeb.com are designed to facilitate such connections."
This website is connected with Ancestry.com, and some of the content is shared between the two sites.
